Bonnie Fang Foundation Nursing Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions

The Bonnie Fang Foundation Nursing Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate nursing students enrolled full-time in an eligible nursing program, with one or more years of school remaining, who meet the Foundation’s geographic eligibility requirements.

California: The applicant’s primary residence and nursing program must each be located within Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, or San Bernardino County. The applicant’s residence and nursing program do not need to be located in the same county.

Nevada: The applicant’s primary residence and nursing program must each be located within Clark County.

Applicants must also meet all other eligibility requirements outlined in the scholarship application.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an appropriately accredited nursing program. When state nursing regulatory approval is required for the applicant’s particular nursing program or educational pathway, the program must also hold the applicable state approval.

Applicants must attend their nursing program in person. Fully online and hybrid nursing programs are not eligible for the Bonnie Fang Foundation Nursing Scholarship.

Eligible applicants may be pursuing undergraduate or graduate nursing degrees, provided they meet all other scholarship eligibility requirements.

The Bonnie Fang Foundation may award one $5,000 California Nursing Scholarship and one $5,000 Nevada Nursing Scholarship during each scholarship cycle.

Awards are contingent upon applicants meeting the Foundation’s established eligibility and selection criteria.

Scholarship funds are paid directly to the recipient’s educational institution and applied to the recipient’s student account for eligible educational expenses, including tuition, required academic fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for the recipient’s nursing education.

The 2027 Bonnie Fang Foundation Nursing Scholarship application opens September 15, 2026 and closes December 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM.

Applications must be completed and submitted by the deadline to be considered.

Yes. Applicants must provide documentation demonstrating U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status as part of the scholarship application.

Yes. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.

A current nursing program transcript must be submitted with the scholarship application.

Applicants must submit the completed online scholarship application along with the following required supporting documents:

Proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status; proof of current enrollment in the applicant’s nursing program; a current nursing program transcript demonstrating a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5; two professional letters of recommendation; and the completed Bonnie Fang Foundation Financial Need Information Form.

Applicants will also complete the written responses and video response included in the scholarship application.

Applicants must provide two professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to their academic, professional, leadership, or community service experience.

Letters from family members, relatives, or personal friends will not be accepted.

Applicants will be asked to describe their financial circumstances and explain how receiving the scholarship would support them in continuing their nursing education.

The response should be 250–500 words and should reflect the applicant’s individual circumstances.

Applicants must complete the Bonnie Fang Foundation Nursing Scholarship Financial Need Information Form.

The form asks applicants to provide information regarding financial resources and assistance, scholarships and grants, educational expenses, necessary living expenses, and estimated unmet financial need for the 2026–2027 academic year.

The Foundation may request reasonable documentation to verify information provided as part of the scholarship application and selection process.

Applicants will be asked:
“Tell us about a moment or experience that showed you something important about the kind of nurse you want to be. What happened, and what did you learn about yourself from that experience?”

Please speak naturally and answer in your own words. We are interested in hearing your personal perspective and getting to know you—not in receiving a polished or professionally produced video.

Video length: 2–3 minutes.

The Bonnie Fang Foundation Nursing Scholarship is awarded through a competitive selection process.

Applicants are evaluated based on the Foundation’s established eligibility and selection criteria, including academic achievement, compassion, integrity, leadership, community involvement, financial need, and commitment to the nursing profession.

The Foundation reserves the discretion to award scholarships only to applicants who sufficiently meet its established eligibility and selection criteria. If no applicant sufficiently meets the criteria for a particular scholarship, the Foundation may elect not to make an award during that scholarship cycle.

Completed applications will be evaluated by the Bonnie Fang Foundation Scholarship Committee.

Applicants who advance in the selection process will be contacted by the Foundation by mid-February 2027.

Advancing applicants may be asked to provide additional information or documentation needed to verify eligibility or support the selection process.

Yes. Applicants who are not selected for a scholarship are welcome to apply again in future scholarship cycles, provided they continue to meet the Foundation’s eligibility requirements.

Scholarship recipients serve as Bonnie Fang Foundation Student Ambassadors and are expected to remain actively engaged with the Foundation and the nursing community during their Ambassador term.

Through opportunities for service, community involvement, Foundation activities, and connection with others who share a commitment to nursing, recipients are encouraged to give back, build meaningful relationships, and represent the values of the Bonnie Fang Foundation.

Specific Student Ambassador expectations and requirements will be provided to scholarship recipients.
