Divine Grace Soriano

2014 Undergraduate Scholarship Recipient
University of California Los Angeles | School of Nursing

Divine Grace Soriano is a recent graduate from the UCLA School of Nursing’s Bachelor of Science Program. Her passion to enter the nursing profession was inspired while she was volunteering at a hospice care organization and saw the need for patient advocates. With her caring nature, she hopes to provide compassion and make a difference in people’s lives. She enjoyed all of her clinical rotations throughout nursing school, but loved her Maternity rotation the most and desires to become a Labor & Delivery Nurse.

She was actively involved in Alpha Tau Delta, a professional nursing fraternity, where she had the pleasure to serve as Class Representative, Treasurer, and President over the past 3 years. She worked to promote the nursing profession, encouraged intellectual and personal growth, and fostered relationships among the nursing students from various programs as well as its sister chapters. In addition, Grace was also the Media Outreach Committee Chair of Men In Nursing at UCLA where she helped promote a positive image of male nurses. She developed the organizations first professional website in hopes to increase awareness and encourage men to join the nursing profession.

Grace is very passionate in giving back to her community. Some of her community involvements include being an ER volunteer at Kaiser Permanente South Bay and a volunteer annually at UCLA’s Annual Day of Service to address the needs and promote holistic health among homeless and low income families in the greater Los Angeles area. She also helped organize fundraisers and raised nearly $1400 to fund the medical needs of Hurricane Katrina, victims, Typhoon Haiyan victims in the Philippines, and Chinese orphans with congenital heart diseases. Her dedication to serving the community was recognized by President Barack Obama in 2013 when she received the President’s Volunteer Award.

Given that the nursing profession offers countless opportunities in many fields, Grace plans to pursue further education and also become a Forensic Nurse and a certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. She aspires to go on international medical missions and mobile clinics to provide for the under served community who lack access to adequate and proper medial treatment in third world countries.
