Nursing is a profession that embraces and exhibits the core value of a life dedicated to service through compassion, humility and wholeness. I began my professional career as a registered dietitian ten years ago. During those years, I contemplated becoming a nurse. Several significant events finally led me to pursue nursing. I have been involved with numerous local and international community health outreaches. During these community outreaches, I observed the lack of access to healthcare among the poor. these experience often left my heart aching. I was challenged and inspired by several Christian medical staff members who traded their opportunity to practice medicine in the United States in exchange for a life dedicated to serving the underserved.
After my training in nursing at the baccalaureate level, I decided to further pursue graduate level training in nursing and become a family nurse practitioner (FNP). Being able to empower my patients to improve their own health is the most rewarding aspect of my current job as a diabetes nurse educator. Upon completing my FNP training, I plan to practice in outpatient primary care setting and work with patients and families who face the daily challenges of living with diabetes.
In addition to being a practitioner, I hope to have opportunities to be involved with medical missions. I believe medical missions encompasses two of my passions in life, medical science and serving the underserved.
