Fifteen years ago, I set out to become a nurse, but life had a different path in store for me. Along the way, I discovered resilience, adaptability, and commitment to caring for others. My journey led me to receive my Master’s Degree in Psychology to work nearly a decade in behavioral healthcare helping people navigate their toughest moments. In addition, I started Sykes Horizons a 501c3 nonprofit mentoring families with youth. My passion for
nursing never faded.

Over the years I’ve lost both parents to illness. In 2018, I lost my mother, and in 2024, I faced the loss of my father to cancer. Being his caregiver in his final weeks reignited my calling and reminded me why I was drawn to nursing in the first place. I witnessed firsthand the power of compassionate care, and I knew I was meant to be part of that impact.

Motherhood and marriage have further shaped my heart and my perspective, teaching me patience, strength, and the beauty of being fully present. Now, I return to nursing with a renewed sense of purpose, a deep well of empathy, and a commitment stronger than ever.

This journey has prepared me in ways I never could have imagined. I step forward with gratitude, wisdom, and confidence that every challenge has led me to this moment. Nursing is not just a career, it is my calling, my purpose, and my way of bringing light to
those in need.
