We are pleased to introduce Kathleen Cana, a friend of the Bonnie Fang Foundation.
Kathleen earned her nursing degree in 2003 at the Centro Escolar University in Manila,
Philippines and moved to the U.S. in 2006. She began in the Medical Surgical Unit at
Glendale Memorial Hospital and despite the challenges of this high-stress unit, she
persevered and has now worked there for 20 years. Besides taking care of patients,
Kathleen also serves as a preceptor to new hires and graduates and occasionally steps-
in as a Relief Charge Nurse.
Kathleen is committed to her work and feels it was her calling to have caring hands.
This compassion was instilled in her at a very young age, when she had to use sign
language to translate for her deaf and mute parents and assist with her ill, younger
sister who tragically passed at age 17. Kathleen’s first son, Mark, was born with special
needs, and he was her motivation to complete her nursing degree.
Even though Kathleen is a busy mom to five children, she started running in 2014. She
has participated in the NURSES ROCK race three times: in 2026, in 2024 with her
husband, and in the inaugural 2022 race where she was a “10K Division Winner.”
Running is her favorite thing to do in her free time. It’s an integral part of her life that
keeps her body and mind healthy and helps her cope with any challenges that life
brings.
Kathleen encourages everyone “to be successful in your own ways of doing what you
love.” To that we say, “Thank you Kathleen for your many years of dedication to your
patients and for sharing your sunshine with all of us!”
