Holly Withrington

2017 UCLA Graduate Scholarship Recipient
University of California Los Angeles | School of Nursing

My name is Holly Withrington and I am a graduate of the UCLA School of Nursing’s Master Entry Clinical Nurse program class of 2017. It is such an honor to have received the Bonnie Lee Fang Scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year. I would like to thank the foundation for their generous support of my educational endeavors.

I began my educational career at UC San Diego where I studied Sociology and Human Development and later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 2012. Driven by a deep interest in cultures and languages, throughout college I volunteered in Central America and studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain. Upon graduating, I began my professional career in the non-profit sector in the San Diego area. My experience in non-profits provided a great foundation for community work and advocacy among vulnerable populations, however it left me unprepared financially for higher education to achieve my goal of obtaining a masters degree.

Upon deciding to explore a career change to the nursing, I gained valuable experience as a nursing assistant at both UCSF Medical Center and Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in a variety of acute care settings. These experiences along with my education at the UCLA School of Nursing have provided an excellent foundation that will contribute to my success as a new graduate Registered Nurse. I am so excited to announce that I will be taking my novice nurse skills to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital as a New Graduate RN in Labor and Delivery this fall.

As a masters prepared nurse I am fortunate to have a strong educational foundation that will provide opportunity for lifelong growth and learning. I hope to one day return to my passion of working in the community among underserved populations similar to Bonnie Lee Fang’s legacy. Considering the expense of graduate school, the Bonnie Lee Fang Foundation scholarship has provided a sense of financial relief for which I am extremely appreciative. Thank you!
