University of California, Los Angeles | School of Nursing

During nursing school, I remember being told that we’re nurses before we even know we want to become one. Looking back, I resonated with that statement because growing up, I would search for articles on how to treat the common cold such that I could take care of my family members or my first “patients”. It only became natural that I found my way towards nursing; however, it was my dad’s major heart surgery that solidified my decision. Throughout my time at UCLA, my love for cardiac care grew even more as I became a Basic Life Support/CPR lead instructor through my pre-health honor society, Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), where I certify students on the weekend. This position was a catalyst for many more positions as I realized how rewarding it is to educate and impact those around me. Thus, I became a student lab mentor where I would demonstrate clinical skills to those I mentor since I strongly believe in educating the upcoming generation of nurses. I also took on the role of being logistics director for a health fair, also associated with AED, and this made me realize the importance of community outreach. Soon I’ll be inducted to Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing to continue to grow and become the best registered nurse I can be.
